Angayuqaq Oscar Kawagley is a Yupiaq indigenous educator and faculty member of the Univesity of Alaska's School of Education. Born in 1934 in Bethel, Alaska, he was educated in Bureau of Indian Affairs and Territorial schools. In addition to working as a rural teacher for many years, he has served as chief executive officer for various enterprises including a Native corporation. From 1980 to 1986 he was a member of the Executive Committee of the Inuit Circumpolar Conference, and has also served on numerous state and regional task forces on Native education.
