Inlet in the Gulf [1994]

"In Inlet in the Gulf, as in other examples of my work ranging from birch trunks to leaves, water and ice, I have tried to isolate an element of the landscape - in this case the dramatic shore of an Arctic inlet north of the treeline - against a stark white background in order to create a dialogue between the painterly surface of the canvas and the representational surface of the landform itself."
